When you finally move to a new place, you will now start to spend for the hidden costs associated with it. Some of them are the following:
Changing locks — this is important for your safety and peace of mind.
New decorations — this may include new draperies, shelves or furniture to fit your new space. Plan ahead of time what you need vs. what you want to prevent overshooting from your budget.
Start-up costs — you will have a new set of utility bills to pay, such as electric and cable for instance. If you moved to a new state, you will also need to change your license number plus a new license plate, insurance and vehicle registration.

There is a form of insurance that covers precious items that may be part of the move, the certified antique china cabinet or the vintage collection of plates and other trinkets to help cover for any damage should the mover fail to take necessary precautions. From handling, loading, securing, unloading and you signing the release of the said item the process is quite trivial but if you’re not careful you will get some rotten eggs. Try to talk with the mover and arrange a representative to check the item (may include an insurance agent or inspector) before packing, and then while un-packing to make sure any damage is documented. Packing materials that is, and on that front, the ever present corrugated box is king. They may seem flimsy but they are quite tough, able to withstand a lot of weight but once damaged they are as weak as paper. The boxes we see today are marvels of engineering thought they are merely boxes they have been designed for the purpose they were to serve. The corrugation provides structural integrity, even at load some are even treated to survive moist conditions, with a plastic or wax treatment applied. Unknown to most, they do come in rated forms according to the materials we will be placing into them. Read the rest of this entry »

Moving is a harsh reality, may it be for economy or for more serious reasons, it is very tiring and time consuming, emotional even. But there is no frustrating side-effect of moving than to get down to having all your stuff brought to the new apartment and finding out your bed won’t fit, having spent hundreds of dollars to get it there, selling it and buying a new one to take it’s place. That’s one mistake that is as common as pie, for moving takes a lot of discipline if you want it to be fast and worry-free. I mean hiccups are part of life but a blunder that big can send you into fits of rage reminiscent of the reaction of Mr. Bean, when things go wrong.

Moving is one of the most difficult tasks that is part of getting a new home. Having to pack, unpack and find a place for all your stuff you just fit into a new house is a true challenge but consider selling some of your old stuff to make room for new ones. The old washer though it still works that you haven’t used for quite sometime due to a newer model you’ve just bought and many other stuff you have in your old garage.
Make it a habit to do inventories of your belongings, noting down redundancies that can be trimmed down to save space. The reason for your move might be to get a smaller space but fitting the contents of a big house into a small one would be next to impossible. Have a yard sale before you move so you don’t lug around dead weight, or stuff you can’t use because of space limitations in the end.

Moving to a new home and a new community can be hard on you and your children. Assure your children that they are important and that moving will be a positive experience. Let them be a part of the experience. Be positive and answer your child’s questions about the move. Children can sense if you are apprehensive, so do your best to have an upbeat attitude about the upcoming move.
Surprise your children with address books or diaries and encourage them to fill them with names, addresses, phone numbers and emails of their friends that they would like to keep in touch with.
Give your children specific jobs to do on moving day and let them know that their jobs are essential. You may get so wrapped up in the details of moving, that your children get lost
in the shuffle, so make them a part of the shuffle. You may be surprised at how helpful they can be.

A new domain means a whole new set of expenses. It’s important to know what you are getting yourself into, so plan early and budget accordingly – or else you may find yourself with no electricity, food or water.
1. Start-Up Costs – Remember all those companies you had to notify about your move, such as the electric and cable companies – well now you have a whole new set of these to worry about. When setting up the essentials, there are often deposits and/or start-up costs required. Be sure to ask about special discounts or free installation options. In addition, you will need to anticipate costs for changing your driver’s license or other forms of identification. If you are moving to a different state, you will incur costs for new license plates, vehicle registrations and insurance. If you are a licensed professional, you may also need to obtain new licensing or certifications.
