The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) revealed that most of the landscape artists are moving outside of homes, making true living spaces out of outdoor areas. Landscaping has already evolved beyond traditional grilling. As gentle outdoor areas create a peaceful atmosphere that can also be turned to a festive mood, people are finding it perfect for entertaining and daily living.

A major part of landscape design is finding out how a particular area is going to be used and uniting those elements seamlessly. Adequate sun protection helps plants thrive, and evolving designs make yards, patios, and balconies even more beautiful.

nullSo what will you do with all the stuff that you need to dispose? If you started your sorting early, you can still find a right owner or home for these things.

You can research in the internet and begin to collect information on auction houses, locate antique stores that may buy them, and look for storage facilities or haulers that will still find a use for them. Also, you can list all your belongings for disposal and talk to your family and friends. Maybe they can help you dispose them or better yet, they might be interested in purchasing them from you.

nullIt is better to do this sorting as soon as you have already confirmed your new home. Scrutinize every detail of the house structure and make your own floor plan even before the date of the move.

You will see that it is much easier to unpack if you have decided earlier on which room will be the master bedroom, living room, den, kitchen etc. Begin to plan the arrangement of big furniture like the sofa, dining table, or bed. This will make your sorting much easier. You can immediately see which of your current stuff fits into the new home.

nullSo how do you decide which one to take and which one to dispose? Decisions can be very tough at times, especially if there are old things which have sentimental value. Like for example, a big hanging décor that was given by a favorite uncle who is no longer around. If you take it with you, what will you do if there are new gifts? Will you still have a place for them?

Maybe it’s time to let go of that 20-year old décor which takes half the wall, and keep the ones that are essential to fit in the new house.

nullStart to sort the possessions that you have accumulated throughout your entire lifetime. It may be overwhelming, but it has to be done. Schedule a regular schedule to do this, like in the evenings after work or during the weekends. Better yet, you can hire a professional organizer.

Pick one area in your house to start with, and then work your way to finish the rest. The most important thing is that you have begun to simplify your life. What’s needed now is for you to be consistent and continue with what you started until the rest of your stuff has been sorted. Other members of the family can help too.

nullIf you are moving houses anyway, why not remove the clutter and unusable things in your old home to simplify your life. Leaving some old things behind will not only free up more space in your new home, but it can also give you a feeling of mind peace and serenity. Clutter confuses our mind. Living a life with organized things on the other hand, will free our mind to think of the more important things.

Before moving, plan to downsize your stuff. We all know the old saying that “failing to plan is planning to fail.” It is recommended to start a 3-ring binder to collect all information relating to the move.
